Baobab People Biennial Conference 2018 Beyond Tolerance: Building Sustainable Communities in the Age of Diversity
Time & Location
About The Event
With this conference theme, Baobab People seeks to respond to the deeply divided nature of our communities, as our recent election has revealed. While we may share some similarities, the realities of race, gender, religious and other forms of social difference are often the source of conflict between people. Moreover, despite a growing interest in diversity, we continue to struggle to embrace difference within our neighborhoods, communities, and institutions.
Baobab People’s 2018 Conference, in concert with Saint Louis University’s Center for Global Citizenship will critically examine the concept of diversity—the challenges it brings, the advantages it offers, as well as its fundamental necessity for our world. Presentations and conversation at this conference will be wide-ranging, touching on education, business, science and technology, the media, and community engagement. Ultimately, this conference will challenge us to shift from merely tolerating our differences to learning how to utilize diversity as a tool for building and sustaining community.
