We have three recurring internship positions available. Internships are unpaid, but we are willing to work with your educational institution to make sure you receive academic credit for your service.

Copy Editor Intern

 

Title: Program Intern

Organization: Baobab People

Answer to: Executive Director/Program Manager

 

Term: Spring 2018 (Recurring)

 

Description:

Baobab People is a nonprofit organization based in St. Louis whose mission is connecting cultures through dialogue and learning. As the program intern, you will have the opportunity to help generate and implement ideas for engaging the community in cross-cultural conversations with one another. Your input will be valued as a core member of our team.

 

You will gain experience in nonprofit management, dialogue facilitation, cross-cultural trainings, and event planning.

 

Applicants should possess strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity skills. The ability to engage in respectful and conscientious communication with diverse people is required.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help plan bi-monthly forums on issues of diversity in St. Louis

  • Contribute to planning process for biennial conference on cross-cultural awareness and communication

  • Learn to conduct cultural competency trainings

  • Provide assistance to director and program manager as needed

Social Media Intern

Title: Social Media Intern

Organization: Baobab People

Answer to: Media Director

 

Term: Spring 2018 (Recurring)

 

Description:

Baobab People is a nonprofit organization based in St. Louis whose mission is connecting cultures through dialogue and learning. As the social media intern, you will work with the media director to develop and implement strategies for promoting the organization through various social media channels.

 

Do you have a particular digital media specialty or skill set you would like to focus on developing further? We want to give you an opportunity to do that, so the specifics of the position are flexible based on your own skills and interests.

 

Applicants should possess strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity skills. The ability to engage in respectful and conscientious communication with diverse others is required.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help develop and implement promotional strategies for organization

  • Create photos, videos, and other digital content

  • Maintain social media calendar and schedule posts for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other channels as required

  • Meet regularly with media director for progress updates and attend bi-monthly forums and other events to capture photos, manage live media accounts, etc.

Description:

Baobab People is a nonprofit organization based in St. Louis whose mission is connecting cultures through dialogue and learning. We are expanding our mission through the creation of an online magazine. As the copy editor intern, you will have the opportunity to help fulfill the mission of the magazine, which is to engage a broader community in cross-cultural conversation through the written word. Your input will be valued as a core member of our editing team.

 

Applicants should possess strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity skills. The ability to engage in respectful and conscientious communication with diverse people is required. Additionally, strong applicants will possess effective research and written communication skills, a strong command of grammar and mechanics, as well as a willingness to learn and implement the magazine’s formatting and style guidelines.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review submissions to ensure guidelines are followed
  • Review submissions for errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc. and makes suggested changes for clarity

  • Double check facts, names, places, dates, etc. for accuracy

  • Ensure that submissions are free of errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and repetitions.
